2007 4-H Provincial Programs Listing

2007 4-H SENIOR MEMBERS APPLICATION FORM

Listed below are the 2007 Provincial 4-H Programs available to all New Brunswick Senior 4-H members.  If you are interested in any of these, please complete the attached application form and return it to: NB 4-H Council Ltd.; 267 Connell Street, Unit 5, Woodstock, NB; E7M 1L2. Telephone 324-6244; Fax 325-9266 or e-mail .nb4h@nbnet.nb.ca  Please note that only members in good standing are allowed to participate in provincial 4-H activities, meaning that club dues must be paid to the NB 4-H Council.  Also note that members are to bring their Medicare card to each event.  You will receive more information on the event, registration forms, etc. at a later date.

N.B. 4-H SENIOR MEMBERS CONFERENCE

WHO:  4-H members aged 15-21 as of January 1, 2007.

WHAT: A fun-filled conference in which members will participate in social recreation and workshop sessions focusing on issues concerning today's young people.

WHEN: Mar 30-Apr 1, 2007

WHERE: Fredericton, N.B.

COST: $50.00 Registration Fee.  Transportation to and from the conference is the responsibility of the member.  A delegate list will be mailed out to facilitate in car-pooling.

NB 4-H ANNUAL CANOE TRIP

WHO: 4-H members aged 13 and over, leaders and parents.  Everyone is welcome!

WHAT:  A well-supervised weekend canoe trip and camping expedition, which will include swimming, skits, bonfires and fun!  Please try to arrange for your own canoe.  Life jackets are a must.  All activities/sessions will be carried out in English.

WHEN: May 19-21, 2007

WHERE:       Kennebecasis River, N.B.

COST: $20.00 registration fee.  Transportation to and from the trip is the responsibility of the member, leader or parent. 

NB 4-H CLOVERBUD AND JUNIOR CONFERENCE & CAMP COUNSELLORS

WHO:  4-H members over the age of 16 to chaperone members aged 7 through 11.

WHAT:  A 3 day camp where members participate in sessions ranging from promoting 4-H and crafts to outdoor survival.  Campfires, ghost stories and swimming also make up an important part of 4-H camp life.All activities/sessions will be carried out in English.

WHEN: June 15-17, 2007        

WHERE: Caton's Island, Brown's Flat, N.B.

COST: $15.00 registration fee.  Transportation to and from the camp is the responsibility of the member.

NB 4-H WILDERNESS SURVIVAL CANOE TRIP

WHO: 4-H members aged 13 and over, leaders and parents.  Everyone is welcome!

WHAT:  A well-supervised weekend canoe trip and camping expedition, which will include the opportunity to travel along the river with all your supplies, tents, etc. and try different survival activities.  Please try to arrange for your own canoe.  Life jackets are a must.  All activities/sessions will be carried out in English.

WHEN: June 22-24, 2007

WHERE:       Portage River, N.B.

COST: $20.00 registration fee.  Transportation to and from the trip is the responsibility of the member, leader or parent. 

E.B.I 4-H SHOWCASE

WHO: 15 4-H dairy project members and 10 4-H beef project members 14 years of age and older.  Members from the other Atlantic Provinces will attend.  All beef and dairy members are eligible to apply, unless you were a past overall winner at the Showcase or have already attended the Showcase three times. 

WHAT: If you want to improve your showing skills and knowledge of cattle, let Eastern Breeders Inc. teach you everything you need to know.  You bring your own project animal (unclipped) to the Showcase.  All activities will be carried out in English.

WHEN: June 27-29, 2007

WHERE: NSAC and Provincial Exhibition Grounds, Truro, Nova Scotia

COST: $100.00 registration fee.  Transportation to and from the event is the responsibility of the 4-H member.  Transportation for the animal is the responsibility of the member.

N.B. 4-H SENIOR MEMBERS VAN TOUR

WHO : 4-H members aged 16 and over.

WHAT:   A weekend camping trip where members will be traveling by van.  Members will be camping and touring places of interest.

WHEN: June 29 – July 2, 2007

WHERE: Tour of New Brunswick

COST: At least $100.00.  Members selected are also responsible to help with fundraising or soliciting sponsorship to help cover the cost of the trip - vans, gas, campsites, etc.  This trip depends on if we can secure screened volunteer leaders to accompany the members.

NATIONAL 4-H DAIRY CONFERENCE: MADISON, WISCONSIN

WHO: 2 Dairy members who have outstanding dairy accomplishment records and: 1) have achieved at least 3 years in the dairy project, 2) are aged 15 but not more than 18 years of age before January 1, 2007 3) have not attended the National 4-H Dairy Conference before, 4) are not exhibiting dairy animals at this year's World Dairy Expo, and 5) are not participating in this year's National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest.

WHAT: An excellent 4-H Dairy program developed to help the dairy industry meet the developmental needs of youth, and provide them with a better understanding of the production, processing, marketing and use of dairy products as well as a broader understanding of careers available in dairy production, biotechnology, genetics, processing, marketing and other selected areas. Workshops, speakers, tours and visiting the World Dairy Expo.

WHEN: September 30-October 4, 2007

WHERE: University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.

COST: $250.00 registration fee.

NOTE: A 500-word essay must be submitted with your application.  Choose one of the following topics:

1) The Future of the Dairy Industry in Atlantic Canada."

OR

2) Technology in Dairy Farming: Embryo Transfers, Animal Cloning, etc."

OR

3) From show photographer to milk truck driver to auctioneer…explore the various careers related to the dairy industry."

NOTE     This program depends on sponsorship so we may only be sending one delegate.

N.B. 4-H WILDERNESS RETREAT

WHO :  4-H members 13 years old and over.

WHAT: A camping weekend where participants will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in such areas as wilderness survival, map and compass skills, and knowledge of plant and animal habitat.

WHEN:          October 19-21, 2007

WHERE:       Southampton, N.B.

COST: $40.00 registration fee.  Transportation to and from the camp is the responsibility of the member.

      DEADLINE TO APPLY IS JANUARY 31, 2007.
